South-Savo vocational college (Esedu) offers vocational education and training for adolescents and adults. We offers our students unique versatile learning paths and international learning experiences customized to fit different life situations. All our education is given in Finnish.We operate in three locations in eastern part of Finland.
Annually we have approximately 7000 students. Of those students 2500 are adolescents studying for a vocational upper secondary qualification and 4500 are adult students. 750 of our students are in apprenticeship training.
Our faculty consists of teachers and trainers (270) and of other personnel (210).
We offer vocational education and training (VET) in the following fields:
- Culture
- Natural Resources and the Environment
- Natural Sciences
- Social Sciences, Business and Administration
- Social Services, Health and Sports
- Technology, Communications and Transport
- Tourism, Catering and Domestic Services
- On-the-job training is an integral part of studies
Vocational education and training
Students in vocational upper secondary education and training are mainly aged 16-25 years. The school-based education system means full-time studies for three years at a vocational institution. Education and training of compulsory studies is primarily organised in year classes. Else, students follow their individual study plans.- A three-year vocational qualification provides general eligibility for higher education in both polytechnics and universities
- We organize Vocational Qualifications in over 20 different fields.
- We also offer our students the possibility to take the national matriculation examination.In the apprenticeship system, training is not based on age groups. The minimum age is 15 and there is no maximum age.
- The qualifications in vocational adult education and training are mainly taken in the form of competence-based qualifications
- There are three levels of competence-based qualifications: Vocational Qualifications, Further Vocational Qualifications and Specialist Vocational
- Competence-based qualifications are based on competence tests.
- These tests do not require formal preparatory training, but many students decide to take training to fill gaps in vocational skills and to enhance their skills. They are provided with individual learning programmes tailored to suit their needs.
- ESEDU organises over 80 competence tests in different fields.
- We also offer short-term training and personnel training for local businesses, such as training for hot work license or for hygiene proficiency certificate.
